Introductions and Conclusions Most students know that essays should start with an introduction and end with a conclusion. However, beginning and ending the essay is often far more difficult than writing the main body. Introductions are especially difficult because they give the examiner his or her first impression of your essay writing skills.
The introduction paraphrases the question, states both views and states that an opinion will be given in the essay. It also clearly tells the examiner what the essay will discuss in the main body paragraphs.
There is not a fixed structure you have to follow for an IELTS essay. Of course you do need certain things that you mention such as introduction, body paragraphs, conclusion, thesis statement, central ideas in each paragraph etc. But there are different ways of structuring an essay.
